Two senior members of the Department, receive academic promotion.
The Department of Physics, KNUST is glad to announce that Dr David Dotse Wemegah and Eric Kwabena Kyeh Abavare have been promoted to the rank of Associate Professors in their respective disciplines. Find below a quick rundown of who they are and what their research interests are:
a) Prof. Eric Kwabena Kyeh Abavare (Associate Professor of Theoretical and Computational Physics)
Prof. Eric Kwabena Kyeh Abavare is a Theoretical and Computational Physicist. He obtained his BSc. Degree in Physics from KNUST, MSc. Degree in Applied Physics from the University of Central Lancashire, England and his PhD in Condensed Matter Physics from University of Tsukuba, Japan. Prof. Abavare research interests are in materials technology. He has published extensively in leading international peer-reviewed journals and has served as a reviewer for many high-impact journals and grant application (eg. FLAIR). Eric teaches undergraduate and postgraduate courses. He has supervised thesis at the undergraduate, Master's and Doctoral levels and is an external examiner/moderator to a number of universities in Ghana. He is a Member of several national and international bodies such as Ghana Science Association (G.S.A.), African Materials Research Society, Institute of Physics (I.O.P.), U.K and many others.

b) Prof. David Dotse Wemegah (Associate Professor of Geophysics)
Prof. David Dotse Wemegah is a geophysicist with research interest in environmental and mineral exploration geophysics. He obtained his Msc and PhD degrees in Geophysics in 2007 and 2015 respectively, from KNUST and BSc. Degree in Geology and Physics (Combined Major) from the University of Ghana. Prof. Wemegah’s research field is mainly in the application of geophysics in mapping gold mineralization zones in the greenstone belt, environmental monitoring and geotechnical investigation. He is a member of Geophysics Research Group in the Department of Physics and active member of the Ghana Science Association (GSA).
